Magic Rock beer on PerfectDraft? YES PLEASE! If you know about Magic Rock’s beers already, you’ll be salivating. If not, let us introduce you to one of Britain’s most exciting breweries.
Magic Rock Brewing can pack more flavour into a single beer than most breweries can dream of. No wonder, its beers consistently win awards, and many are voted way into the 90s on RateBeer (something very few beers achieve).
The latest addition to the 6-litre keg line up on PerfectDraft is High Wire Grapefruit. It's a 5.5% pale ale with 100% natural pink grapefruit juice added to ramp up the hoppy notes it’s already loaded with.
Vik Stronge from Magic Rock Brewing said: “High Wire Grapefruit is a really good summer beer. It’s a great all-rounder as everyone likes it. We add grapefruit during the transfer process, which makes it super zingy and zesty. It has got a pale ale backbone with piney, citrusy hops. It is really drinkable and really delicious.
“The beer is great for barbecues and goes well with grilled halloumi, burgers and grilled fish. The grapefruit cuts through a lot of the higher, fatty flavours.”
On PerfectDraft, as soon as you open up the tap, aromas of hops and grapefruit swirl around. On first taste, the beer is slightly tart, juicy, and very refreshing with notes of mango, lychee and, of course, grapefruit.
PerfectDraft keeps the beer pressurized and fresh for 30 days at a steady 3ºC, so all those hop aromas and grapefruit flavours stay vibrant and exciting.
Magic Rock Brewing was founded by Richard Burhouse (aided by head brewer Stuart Ross) in 2011 to bring a taste of the American west coast flavours to Britain. The brewery was set up in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. It very quickly became known around the country for its phenomenal hop-forward beers, including Cannonball, High Wire Pale Ale and, of course, High Wire Grapefruit pale ale. Within six months, Magic Rock was named the second-best new brewery worldwide. The brewery has expanded quickly and opened one of the best taprooms in the country and has only recently opened a bar in nearby Holmfirth.
Magic Rock is such a welcome addition to the PerfectDraft line.
High Wire Grapefruit is a pale ale with plenty of citrusy grapefruit juice added to ramp up the hoppy notes it’s already loaded with. It is a fruit-infused version of Magic Rock’s best-selling High Wire West Coast pale ale.
Pale ales originated in the UK, but these days it often means fairly hoppy beers from the USA and using citrussy or woody hops from America. They tend to be around 4-5% ABV, a little bit lower than US IPAs.
In High Wire Grapefruit, brewers have accentuated the original beer’s malt body and citrus character with the addition of 100% natural pink grapefruit flavour. The beer is tart, juicy, very refreshing with notes of mango, lychee and, of course, grapefruit. As soon as you open the tap on a PerfectDraft keg of pale ale, and in particular Magic Rock’s High Wire Grapefruit, you’ll get aromas of hops (and grapefruit) swirling around. It pours the colour of grapefruit skin and like the juice, a little hazy. It’s a well-carbonated beer and on PerfectDraft keg will have an ample head.
